Frequently Asked Questions

Hanging ice from gutters or your roof edge can be very dangerous. The most common reasons are clogged gutters, improperly installed edge metals, and improper attic ventilation. Improper attic ventilation will also cause ice dams to form on the roof along with a myriad of other problems.
Often a homeowner can see if shingles start to curl or become “degranulated”. The granules from the shingles can start to dislodge and show wear. If you see granules coming through the down spouts of your gutters, it’s probably time to get the roof done. You can also hire a professional to walk the roof to inspect it and perform a “brittle” test on the shingles to determine their functionality.
The roof functions as its own ecosystem and the attic is a very big part of that system. On most homes the soffit is the intake point for air flow. Yes, vented soffits are usually needed to allow air into the attic. It is highly inadvisable to paint them. Improper air flow in the attic can cause many problems some of which can be major including mold growth, ice dam, buckled sheeting, and rapid shingle deterioration.
Many issues can cause humps or bumps to appear in roofs. Bad shingling, improper underlayment installation, improper ventilation or hot/cold spots, buckled sheeting, and “crowned” trusses. Houses move as they settle and age. Some of these issues can be solved relatively cheaply, while some are major construction and can be expensive to fix. A local professional can diagnose these issues.
We will do a full replacement of roofs, siding, soffit, fascia, insulation, etc. under some circumstances. Our focus however is more on the repair side of things. Unfortunately it can be hard to find a reputable business that will come out for small repairs. This is our niche in the market and we try to keep our time available for homeowners who may need a timely fix, especially those that have an issue that can cause more damage in the home.

Absolutely we are. Unfortunately problems can happen when it’s cold outside. We can do most work in the winter. There are times it would be inadvisable to install shingles (depending mostly on the surrounding area of your home). Vinyl siding can be very brittle in the cold as well. Rubber roofing and certain jobs that require a glue or epoxy may need to wait until temps are warm enough for the glue to cure.
